Game Console Repair for PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch

When a console goes dark, loses its picture, or shuts itself off in the middle of a game, the fault is almost always a specific part on the board rather than the whole machine. A cracked HDMI port tears the pads and traces beneath it, a blown MOSFET or regulator in the power section starves the main processor, and corrosion from a spill eats through the copper while everything else inside is still fine. ChipWorx is a board-level microsoldering lab in New York. We work on these consoles at the component level under the microscope, and the diagnostic is free. Console repair is a complement to our core data-recovery work, so if a system also holds saves or captures you care about, we can look after both.

Symptoms we fix

  • Completely dead with no power, no fan spin, and no light when you hit the button
  • Powers on but there is no video or HDMI signal, so the TV shows "no signal" or a black screen
  • Overheats and shuts itself off, or the fan roars and the system restarts mid-game
  • Disc drive won't take a disc, won't eject, keeps grinding, or reads nothing
  • A Switch that won't charge, has a loose USB-C port, or won't dock to the TV
  • Blue light of death, black screen of death, or a red or flashing power light
  • Went in a puddle, drink, or flood and now acts strange or won't start
  • Storage that has failed, or a system that won't boot past the logo

What we do

  • Run a free diagnostic under a microscope to find which part or power rail failed before quoting anything
  • Replace a cracked or burned HDMI port and repair the surrounding pads and traces that break along with it
  • Repair the power section and the main processor's power rails, replacing failed MOSFETs, regulators, and other components that stop a console from turning on
  • Clean and neutralize corrosion from liquid damage, then rebuild the pads and traces the spill ate through, though we are upfront that corroded boards are the least predictable repairs and are not always worth saving
  • Repair or replace worn connectors and ports, including Switch USB-C charging ports, disc-drive ribbon connectors, and fan headers
  • Service disc drives and swap failed storage, then get the system booting again
  • Reflow or reball the main processor (the APU or SoC) only in the most extreme cases, as a last resort when a repair on the board itself is not possible

Frequently asked questions

My PS5 turns on for a second and then dies, or won't come on at all. Can you fix it?

Usually, yes. A console that clicks off right away or stays dark almost always has a fault in the power section, like a shorted component or a bad power rail feeding the APU. That is board-level work, and it is exactly what we do under the microscope. We start with a free diagnostic to find the failed part, then tell you what it needs and what it costs before we touch anything.

There's no picture on my TV even though the console seems to be on. Is that the HDMI port?

Very often it is. A cracked or lifted HDMI port is one of the most common console faults we see, and it leaves you with a black screen or a "no signal" message while the fan still spins. We replace the port and repair the pads and traces around it that tend to tear when the port gets bumped. The free diagnostic confirms whether it is the port or something further back on the board.

How much does console repair cost and how long does it take?

Cost and turnaround depend on what actually failed, which is why we look first instead of guessing. The diagnostic is free, and we give you an honest quote and a timeframe before any work starts, so there are no surprises. Most board-level jobs run a few business days on the bench once the console is here, with shipping time on top for mail-in.

Do you offer no fix, no fee?

Yes. The diagnostic is free, and if we cannot fix the console you do not pay a repair fee. You would only cover return shipping if you want it sent back. We will also tell you honestly when a repair is not worth it, since some faults, like a badly corroded board, can cost more to fix than the console is worth.

Can I mail my console in, and will my game saves and downloads be safe?

Yes, we take mail-in consoles from anywhere in the US. Most repairs, like ports and power work, do not touch your storage, and we take care to protect the data on the device. That said, board-level work can involve heat near onboard storage, so we cannot guarantee saves and downloads survive every repair. If they matter to you, tell us up front and back them up first if the console still lets you. If the storage itself has failed, we can look at that too, since data recovery is our main line of work.

My Switch won't charge or won't dock to the TV anymore. What's wrong?

That is usually a worn or damaged USB-C port, which handles both charging and the dock connection on a Switch. The port takes a lot of plugging and unplugging and eventually the solder joints or the connector itself give out. We replace the port and repair the board around it so charging and docking work again. As always, the diagnostic is free and you get a quote before we start.

Let’s take a look at it

Free diagnostics and an honest quote before any work. Mail it in from anywhere in the US.

Repair outcomes vary with the type and severity of the damage, and we cannot guarantee every repair will succeed. Board-level work on an already damaged device carries some risk of further damage. You always get an honest assessment and a quote before any work begins.
