Data Recovery FAQ
Straight answers about mailing in a failed drive, SSD, or phone, what it costs, how no recovery, no fee works, and how we keep your data private.
Free diagnostics · No recovery, no fee · Nationwide mail in
Do you charge if you can't recover my data?
No. We work no recovery, no fee. The diagnostic is free, and you only pay if we actually get your data back and you've approved the quote ahead of time.
How do I send you my device?
Start a request and we'll email you a prepaid shipping label. Pack up your drive or phone, ship it, and we run a free diagnostic the day it lands on our bench. We work with customers all over the country by mail in.
What can you recover?
Hard drives that have failed or started clicking, SSDs that are dead or won't show up, RAID and NAS arrays, USB flash drives, SD cards, and phones, including ones with water damage or stuck in a boot loop. We deal with logical, mechanical, and board level failures.
My drive was dropped and now clicks, is the data gone?
Usually not. A drive that clicks and won't detect almost always has a bad head or motor. We open it in a clean room, fit matched donor parts so the platters can spin and read again, then image the data off. Don't keep powering it on, since each attempt can scratch the platters. Send it in instead.
What is board level / microsoldering recovery?
When the circuit board is the problem, say a burned component, a dead controller, or a shorted phone board, we fix the board itself under a microscope. That usually means replacing the damaged parts on the existing board. In the most extreme cases, where the board can't be brought back, we move the controller or memory chips onto donor hardware as a last resort. A lot of shops can't do any of this and just call the data unrecoverable. It's what we focus on.
Is my data kept private?
Yes. We handle your data confidentially and only access it to carry out the recovery. It comes back to you on fresh media. We don't share it, and we don't hold onto it once your case is closed.
How much does data recovery cost?
It comes down to the type of failure. Logical problems sit at the lower end, while mechanical and board level jobs cost more because of the work involved. You get a firm quote after the free diagnostic and sign off on it before we charge anything. No recovery, no fee.
